(1940 - )

Bob MackieBob Mackie was born on March 24,1940 in Monterey, California. He attended the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles where he studied for two years before deciding to pursue his career in costume design. In 1963, Mackie and Ray Aghayan worked together in the television series, The Judy Garland Show, for which Makie received his first screen credit and developed a long association with Aghayan. From 1967-1978 he designed the costumes for the Carrol Burnett Show, and at the same time worked on other projects such as The Sonny and Cher Hour from 1971-1974.

Bob Mackie’s collaboration with Cher continued over the decades, and his designs for her, became an integral part of her image.  He provided the memorable wardrobes for her many public appearances, including her 2002 Living Proof - The Farewell Tour. Tending toward the outrageous, he dressed her as Cleopatra for the launch of her fragrance, Uninhibited, and a “Mohawk Warrior” for the 1986 Academy Awards and provided the sheer catsuit worn in her infamous “If I Could Turn Back Time” music video.
