Edwardian Fashion Era

(1901-1919)

The Glossary Link Edwardian Era started iat the beginning of the twentieth century at the dawn of World War II. Although King Edward VII died during the commencement of an era that would later be named after him; it was also referred to as "La Belle Epoque" French phrase meaning "Beautiful Era".

In 1901 it was the new monarchs of France that would set the example for fashion to an already flamboyant and luxurious French society. King Edward VII and his Queen Alexandra along with their lavish nature inspired society to model itself after the King's demands. An explosion of fancy balls, dinners and high society parties were typical during this period which has also been defined interestingly enough as "the last good time of the upper classes."
