The "Fashion Illustrator" is an artist who illustrates the designs of fashion designers. The ingenuity of these artisans dates back to the sixteenth century where illustrations of costume images have been found in books portraying local and traditional attire. Fashion illustration was unequivocally essential to the success of both fashion illustrator and designers alike. Utilized by both as a form of presenting there designs and artistry to the public by, publishing there works in early fashion magazines such as Lady's Magazine, La Galleries des Modes and later in Vogue.
The contributions of the fashion illustrator has been of great significance and remains a key component of the fashion industry. Although the introduction of fashion photography in 1913 has replaced fashion illustration as the more practical form of advertisement; now the two share an intertwined relationship, where it was once the sole leader.
