Regina Relang
(1906 - 1989)
Regina Relang was born Regina Lang, in Stuttgart, Germany in 1906. Relang studed painting at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart and the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst Berlin. In 1932, Relang moved to Paris and began photographing travel and fashion from locations in southern Europe for Vogue and Die Dame.
Her work also appeared in such magazines as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Bild der Frau.
After the war, Regina moved to Munich and worked with Robert Capa, photographing for famous designers, such as Dior, Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent, capturing the evolving image of woman in the second half of the twentieth century. Photos of her presentations Haute Couture in Paris, appeared in all the fashion magazines in Germany and Europe. Her name became known in the late 70th and early 80th. Her spectacular images of the most forward, fashionable styles were featured twice a year in all of the major German fashion journals, for whom she represented the essence of the catwalk-shooting genre.
Regina Relang's hallmark photographs were masterly composed, and extraordinarily romantic and elegant. Before World War II, Relang was the darling of Paris haute couture in her country, Germany. Relang was honored with numerous photographic awards, such as the German Order of Merit in 1972. Relang died in Munich, Germany in 1989.
